The past year has seen us, with the help of our partners and supporters achieve important milestones. We have attained and maintained international rankings and recognition; we launched innovative new educational programs with top international partner institutions; our research continues to make an impact: our faculty routinely published in top journals; we managed a large portfolio of over 20 global capacity building projects; and our students and alumni continue to perform well and make their mark wherever the are. Highlights 2014 |

As 2014 draws to a close, we look back at a selection of only some of the highlights that made this a remarkable year for MSM:
- Our residential MBA program in Maastricht was re-accredited by the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO) until 2019. This result confirms the high quality of the program meeting both Dutch and international standards.
- MSM was a finalist and won the 3rd prize in the Final of the annual MBA Innovation Award organized by the Association of MBA’s (AMBA).
- MSM maintained its #1 place in the Top Business Schools Internationally Known category according to the latest Eduniversal Ranking.

Master of Management in Education degrees awarded in Zambia |

Based on its decades of experience in building capacity in management education in emerging economies, MSM designed and launched a Master of Management in Education program. This cutting-edge management degree enhances leadership and management competences of current and future university middle managers – an area where more skills are needed given the expansion of higher education in emerging economies. The first Africa-based cohort of this program graduated on 25 November 2014 in Lusaka. Read further >

Mining sector in Zambia needs partnering and better management of conflicts |

On 9 December, Mr. Michael Munkumba from Tanzania successfully defended his Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) thesis at MSM. In his research “Escaping the resource curse through partnerships – the case of Zambia”, Mr. Munkumba set out to investigate ways in which Zambia can use its mineral resources as a trigger for development and a source of mutual benefit for all stakeholders in the mining value chain. “Studying the most important sector in my country has made an indelible mark on me,” says Mr. Munkumba. Healthcare management: medical experts from China and Maastricht meet at MSM |

A 14-member delegation of medical experts from nine different hospitals in Tianjin, China visited MSM on December 8th, 2014. Accompanying them were representatives of Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus (MHC) – MSM’s partner in its Executive Certificate Program in Healthcare Management. Their visit to MSM was an important component of their month-long study trip in Europe. The main focus of their visit was to explore the possibilities and opportunities for management education. Baosteel and MSM: executive education for China’s competitive steel industry |

Over the past twelve years Maastricht School of Management (MSM) has become one of Baosteel Group’s preferred educational partners in Europe. So far more than 100 managers from different companies and departments of Baosteel Group Corporation have completed their study or training in various MSM programs. Most of them have assumed senior management or leadership positions in the companies and communities. The most recent group to graduate from MSM includes five senior managers who completed a 3-month training program which was carefully designed to cater their specific training needs. Read further >

Executive program on anti-money laundering systems for Indonesian officials |

MSM recently provided a tailor-made program on Risk Management Systems for Anti-Money Laundering for a group of 20 civil servants from for the Indonesian Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (INTRAC-PPATK). The two-week program consisted of lectures as well as work visits. The latter included opportunities to interact with specialists at the European Court of Audit (ECA) in Luxembourg, the Financial Intelligent Unit (FIU) in Zoetermeer, the Dutch National Bank in Amsterdam. MSM Research Fellow Nora Stel recent shared her expertise on governance in and institutions at the annual conference of the Middle East Studies Association (MESA), one of the world’s leading academic institutions for the study of the Middle East and North Africa Region that was held from 22 to 25 November in Washington D.C. She presented a paper titled ‘The Children of the State’? How Palestinians from the Seven Villages Negotiate Sect, Party and State in Lebanon. In this paper, Nora discusses processes of nationalization of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. Read further >
