Contributing to economic and social development with MSM Corporate Social Responsibility program

From 26 – 30 November 2018, 8 participants from both inside and outside Europe joined MSM’s 5-day executive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. The program is developed for senior executives and policy makers involved in CSR management and for consultants and lectures working in the field of sustainable development.

During this week both Diederik de Boer, Assistant Professor in Sustainable Business Development at MSM and Mirjana Stanisic, lecturer in Project Management at MSM discussed many cases on CSR and provided insights on how to develop a CSR strategy for an organization. Because nowadays notions like ‘People – Planet – Profit’ (triple P) and CSR are on the agenda of every organization. They increasingly take social, economic and environmental issues into account in their strategy and daily operations. This all to have a “license to operate” within a society.

Work visit
Part of the 5-day program was a work visit to Gulpener, an independent Dutch brewery that was founded in 1825. Gulpener is well known for its approach to corporate social responsibility (CSR). The company visit started with a presentation about the brewery itself, their CSR model and plans for the future. It was impressive to get to know what they do to become more sustainable step-by-step and how many local resources they use to brew beer. The presentation was followed by a tour through the brewery where you could see what they do to reduce pollution that comes with brewing beer.
