Meet MSM's staff members: Introducing Ms. Pilar Gonzalez Vigil

At MSM we are proud of the more than 40 staff members who are committed and eager to fulfill our mission in offering management and entrepreneurship education, advice and research to individuals and organizations from all over the world. To become more acquainted with our staff members and to show you how it feels for them working at MSM we will each month highlight one of our staff members. This month the spotlight will be on Ms. Pilar Gonzalez Vigil.

Let me introduce myself…
My name is Pilar Gonzalez and I am working as Education Officer at MSM. In this position I am responsible for the coordination of the MSc. In Management and Engineering with RWTH Aachen University and the joined MBA programbetween MSM and CENTRUM Católica Graduate Business School. I am the main contact person for these programs and coordinate the courses and additional activities. Besides this, I also work as a lecturer in soft skills and student counsellor.

I am a certified psychologist earned by my study at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and the University of Fribourg(Switzerland). Furthermore I hold a Master degree in International and Comparative Education from the Stockholm University and a MSc. degree in Cognitive Neuroscience of the Maastricht University.

It is a privilege to be part of the personal development of residential students…
As a lecturer on soft skills and student counsellor it is a privilege to be part of the personal development of our residential students. I provide them with workshops on stress management and learning strategies. Moreover, I am coaching them when they have to formulate their goals as part of the personal development track. And, I am the person they can talk to if they are struggling with personal issues.

It is great to see how they network and learn from being in the Netherlands…
For me it is a dream to be the Education Officer responsible for the joined MBA program of MSM and CENTRUM Católica Graduate Business School. Namely, CENTRUM Católica is part of the Peruvian university where I have studied and worked in the past. The MSM/CENTRUM Católica students spend one month of their study at MSM to attend courses and visiting companies/organizations in the region. It is a great experience to support them in this period and to see how they network and learn from being in the Netherlands.

MSM is a great place to work because you feel that you are making a difference…
Also my work as a student counsellor is very rewarding for me. In this sense, MSM is a great place to work because you feel that you are making a difference since you are involved in the development of future business leaders. Due to the international environment, MSM is a unique organization in Maastricht and a stimulating place to work. You can find a great variety of nationalities among students and staff members. For this reason, it is the best place to learn about other culture, but also about your own culture because you are confronted with other values.

If I would have some more spare time…

I would like to write a book about how to find the balance between work and personal life. Somehow this will reflect on my counselling work at MSM, taking into consideration that our students are or will be involved in highly demanding positions. I already wrote three children books: “Rompecabezas para Volar”, “Lala, la Sinpies” and “Tita, la Pirañita. These books cover messages related to personal development and it invites readers to think about their own happiness, dreams and empathy. In case you are interested to buy one of these books…you can buy them online here or visit my blog on Facebook!
