Meet MSM's staff members: introducing Erik Bartels

At MSM we are proud of the more than 47 staff members who are committed and eager to fulfill our mission in offering management and entrepreneurship education, advice and research to individuals and organizations from all over the world. To become more acquainted with our staff members and to show you how it feels for them working at MSM we will each month highlight one of our staff members. This month the spotlight will be on Erik Bartels.

Let me introduce myself…
My name is Erik Bartels and I am Senior Facility Officer at MSM. Beside this position I am Health & Safety Coordinator, Procurement Officer and in addition, which is one of my personal passions, I am the corporate photographer of MSM. In addition I am also the team lead of the MSM company aid team and chair of the MSM works council.

Before joining MSM I have worked in the logistic sector for several years for a variety of companies. Later on, I started as Facility Services Assistant for Apart Hotel Randwyck in Maastricht (NL) where I was responsible for maintenance work and renovations. After a while my manager approach me with the question to combine my work at Apart Hotel Randwijck with a temporarily part-time job as Assistant Facility Manager at MSM. However, after a few months, this temporarily job turned into a full-time job and that’s when my journey at MSM started!

Our guests need to have a pleasant and safe feeling at our MSM Campus…
In my position as Senior Facility Officer at MSM I am responsible for the security, maintenance and services of the MSM work facilities. This to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our employees, students and guests who should have a pleasant and safe feeling at our campus.  As part of the MSM works council, the team and I have the task to represent and protect the interests of our employees.

As mentioned earlier my personal passion is photography. I am glad that MSM has given me the opportunity to study photography which is now of added value for both MSM and myself!

I wish that it would be like this all over the world…
I have been working for MSM for already 23 years now and it remains surprising to me how fast all students -  with their different nationalities and unique characters- adapt so easy to the Dutch (and particularly MSM) culture. And especially how easy they connect and link with their fellow students. This is something I still learn from every day and I wish that it would be like this all over the world. It would make life for all human beings much more peaceful.

In my spare time you can often find me…
During the weekend I love to go out for a walk or mountain biking. Even if we go on holiday to Austria, one of my most favourite countries, my mountain bike is one of the most important things I take with me. And then of course photography. This is something I do throughout the year and I am especially interested in taking photos of architecture, wild life (foxes, kingfishers, deer etc.) and my two dogs (see picture). In all the activities that I do, at work or in my private life, I am eager to do the utmost to achieve my goals.
