M.Sc. in Management and Engineering students complete management courses at MSM

Recently, the M.Sc. in Management and Engineering (MME) students completed their management courses at MSM. From October 2019 until February 2020, the students enjoyed interactive classes, guest lectures and work visits. The two-year program consists of Engineering classes at RWTH Aachen University in the first year and Management classes at MSM in the second year.

Amit Gulave, MME in Computer Aided Mechanical Engineering student, summarized this learning experience at MSM as follows: “the classes were well organized and interactive. Simulation, games and group activities helped us to absorb the management theories and techniques. The individual assignments stimulated the thought process and helped us to apply the knowledge gained during the lectures.”

MSM and RWTH Aachen University offer in total four MME programs: Production Systems, Electrical Power Systems, Computer Aided Mechanical Engineering, and Structural Engineering and Risk Management of Industrial Facilities. The combination of engineering and management is highly requested for future engineering managers, says Amit. “The M.Sc. program offers me the flexibility and exposure to the technical and management domain which is needed in the vast and rapidly changing engineering field.”

Maria Martinez, student of the MME in Structural Engineering and Risk Management of Industrial Facilities, enjoyed the classes to the fullest. “The classes at MSM were completely different to any class that I had. It was refreshing to have classes where your view is as important as the professor’s view. The professors were always looking for you to be part of the discussion, making an environment that is much more similar to a conversation than a class.” One of Maria’s favorite days was when they went to Borselle Nuclear Facility and to the Oosterschelde Barrier. “This experience gave us the reality push which you cannot get in a classroom. It brought the real scale of the projects we want to be involved in to our attention. It also made me more willing to continue the path of industrial facilities as it showed me the impact these types of projects have.”

The key learning outcomes for Saicharan Pedem, student in the M.Sc. in Management and Engineering in Production Systems program, are dealing with people from different nations, dealing with change and understanding business more from a managerial point of view.

All M.Sc. in Management and Engineering programs combine RWTH Aachen University’s excellent reputation and top-faculty in engineering and MSM’s extensive experience in high quality global management education.
