MSc in Management and Engineering goes from strength to strength

Maastricht School of Management (MSM) and RWTH Aachen University welcomed the new MSc in Management and Engineering in Production System students during two official Welcome Ceremonies, in Aachen and in Maastricht. The second edition of the jointly run program consists of 37 students representing 11 nationalities. During the first year of the program the students will follow their Engineering courses in Aachen. In the second year they will follow their Management courses at MSM in Maastricht.

On 30 September, the students were welcomed at RWTH Aachen University. Dean Director of Maastricht School of Management, Prof. Wim Naudé was present at the welcome session at RWTH Aachen University. In his speech, he highlighted the important role for engineers in economic development and added that management skills are an asset for engineers leading companies. He said that innovation in this field of work is crucial and MSM recently appointed an Associate Dean for Innovation, Ms. Amy Wang, whom he introduced to the students. Prof. Naudé also praised the collaboration between MSM and RWTH Aachen University.

The rector of RWTH Aachen University, Prof. Schmachtenberg, described RWTH Aachen University as the best technical university in Germany. He encouraged the students to also live the student life during their stay in Aachen: “Aachen is a student city, just as Maastricht.” He also talked proudly of alumni who now hold high positions around the world, one of them being for example the former president of Indonesia.

On 1 October 2014, the students travelled to Maastricht for their Welcome Day at Maastricht School of Management which included a City Tour to acquaint themselves with the city.

The group of students who started the joint program last year are now attending their Management courses in Maastricht. They joined the residential MBA class for the Introduction Week. On Thursday 25 September 2014 they visited various businesses and organizations in the Netherlands: Vopak (the world's largest independent tank storage provider), the Maeslantkering, the Port of Rotterdam and Kinderdijk (a village in the Netherlands famous for its windmills and part of UNESCO’s World Heritage List).

The Master program in Management and Engineering in Production System is jointly run by two well-respected European education leaders: the RWTH Aachen University and Maastricht School of Management (MSM). The mechanical engineering faculty of the RWTH Aachen University has an excellent reputation and is one of the top faculties worldwide for mechanical engineering. The Maastricht School of Management is a key player in global management education for more than 60 years.
