Baosteel and MSM: executive education for China’s competitive steel industry

Over the past twelve years Maastricht School of Management (MSM) has become one of  Baosteel Group’s preferred educational partners in Europe. So far more than 100 managers from different companies and departments of Baosteel Group Corporation have completed their study or training in various MSM programs. Most of them have assumed senior management or leadership positions in the companies and communities.

During the 11th General Assembly of China Young Entrepreneurs Association (CYEA) last month, the Vice President of Baosteel Group, MSM alumna, Mrs. Chen Ying, was elected as the Vice President of CYEA.

The most recent group to graduate from MSM include five senior managers who completed a 3-month training program which was carefully designed to cater their specific training needs. During visits to European companies/organizations, the group exchanged experience and ideas with European business executives and officials and expanded their professional networks. Through social and cultural visits the group explored the beautiful surrounding of Maastricht and the Netherlands, gained exposure to Dutch and European cultures, and tasted real flavor of life in the Netherlands and Europe.

During a closing ceremony held on Friday, 5 December 2014, each of them received their MSM certificate from Prof. Wim Naudé, Dean Director of MSM.

The graduates were:
Mr. CHEN Miao from the Sales Center of Baosteel Co., Ltd.
Mr. HE Baohua from the Asset Finance Department of Baosteel Co., Ltd.
Mrs. LIU Xing from Baosteel International
Mr. NI Hai from the Sales Center of Baosteel Co., Ltd.
Mr. SHENTU Lifeng from the Central Academy of Research of Baosteel Group Corp.

Baosteel is one of the world’s largest iron and steel manufacturer. Its annual steel output exceeds 40 million tons. In 2012, Baosteel has been recognized jointly by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Finance in China as the “National Model Enterprise for Technological Innovation” and won the China Charity Award, the top government award in Chinese philanthropy, for the fourth consecutive year.  And in 2013, Baosteel was listed among the Fortune Global 500 by the U.S. Fortune magazine for the tenth consecutive year and received the highest credit ranking from the world’s iron and steel enterprises by the Big Three credit rating agencies, namely Standard & Poor’s, Moody’s and Fitch Ratings.
