Strengthening food security and water management in Kenya

MSM in collaboration with Q-point and the East Africa Business Council (EABC) will soon start a four year Nuffic-funded project on “Strengthening linkages between post-secondary education and the private sector for more effective food security and water management” in Kenya. The project focuses on the capacity building of LIWA, an institution that is focused on the linkage of Industry with Academia.

The overall objective of the project centers on the development of the linkages between the higher educational institutions at the private sector focusing on quality, relevance and gender sensitiveness in order to contribute to private sector development. LIWA is the linking institution to facilitate this process in Kenya. LIWA has so far 13 members from University and the Private sector. The institution is young with a need to professionalize further in order to reach a wider network and to become sustainable.

The project has a three pronged approach: Capacity building of LIWA and its partners, Networking and Sustainability. Capacity building will consist of strategy workshops, analysis, training programmes as well as training of trainer’s projects with the members. Sustainability will build upon these activities and will further develop and explore income generating activities. Finally networking will be further strengthened by building upon existing and new networks both with a sectoral focus and a geographical focus (local, national and regional).
