Maastricht Tourist Office launches special webpage for international students

Located at the heart of the Meuse-Rhine Euregion, at close distance from large cities such as Aachen, Düsseldorf, Liège, Antwerp, Brussels, Paris and London, Maastricht prides itself for its unique European and international character and a rich cultural and historical heritage that stretches back 20 centuries. Contributing to the city’s appeal is the large population of international students, who account for over 10 percent of its 122,000 residents. Recognizing this unique community, the Maastricht Tourist Office (VVV) has recently launched a special webpage catering to the interests and needs of foreign students.

Prospective and current students will find many valuable practical tips about living, studying, recreating in Maastricht, as well as informative facts and figures (http://www.vvvmaastricht.nl/en/university.html) about the city and the wider region. They will learn for example that Maastricht is the Netherlands’ second biggest tourist destination, with over 3 million visitors and 135 events organized every year, or that it is also the country’s culinary capital, with over 500 pubs and cafés, numerous food shops and 157 restaurants, three of which boasting a total of four Michelin stars.

The webpage informs furthermore that the city is host to 4,000 international residents, 87 international institutes, and 115 foreign companies generating 11,000 jobs.

In a special section dedicated to higher education institutes, the webpage includes links to the city’s top ranking research and knowledge institutes, including Maastricht School of Management.

The webpage is titled “For Students” and can be found on the main VVV website at: http://www.vvvmaastricht.nl/en/maastricht/for-students.html

The page is currently being developed in English but will soon be available in Dutch, German, French, and possibly other languages.
