MSM promoting Sustainable Development in Afghanistan

Each year many students from across the world travel to the Netherlands to take part in our portfolio of Executive Education Programs in Maastricht. In 2013 Mr. Sadruddin Fakhruddin, Kabul, Afghanistan, travelled to Maastricht to follow the Managing Sustainable Development course. “Originally coming from the rural areas of Afghanistan I acquired a master level qualification and wider working experience in the development of the rural communities across the country…”

"I work for an organization which aims to empower and provide people with licit livelihood opportunities. Despite my current qualification and practical experience, I wished to gain further knowledge in development and management.”

During the MSD course participants will acquire the skills and knowledge which help them to understand sustainable management processes and how to apply these in their own organizations. “As a result of this course, my overall performance and delivery to the organization have improved. I am now more involved in the programs concerned with development and management at national level and I am no longer worried about how to carry out development projects more effectively and efficiently.”

MSM’s program on sustainable development (MSD) focuses on the environmental, economic and social development linkages and their simultaneous consideration for the organizational environment. Together with MSM experts from industry, government and environmental organizations, participants explore and analyze sustainable development in the policy context, the role of the business in sustainable development and sustainable development as a collective action. Over the course of three modules, participants also learn how to use tools such as value chain analysis, environmental/cost benefit analysis and CSR systems. All participants develop an individual action plan, aimed at enhancing the practical application of new knowledge and skills gained. Upon course completion, participants will have a greater understanding of the possibilities for applying sustainable development concepts in their own situation and a practical framework for developing, implementing and evaluating these interventions in their area of interest.

Please note that the application deadline for private sponsorship candidates is 13 April 2015. Click here for more information about the Managing Sustainable Development program.
