MSM, London School of Economics and partners work together to improve public procurement in Jamaica

A consortium of which MSM is part, in partnership with INPRI Jamaica Limited, recently completed a 5-day capacity development program on public procurement at the University of the West Indies’ Mona Campus.

The program is being offered as part of the CARIFORUM/EU Public Procurement Capacity Building Program driven by a consortium that includes MSM, the London School of Economics, SGS Netherlands, and Equinoccio from Spain. The project is based on site in Georgetown, Guyana, close to the headquarters of CARIFORUM and the CARICOM Secretariat, and is managed by a dedicated project management team.

The program was launched by Director General in the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Ms. Dianne McIntosh. As reported in the Jamaica Observer, Ms. McIntosh welcomed the training program, which she anticipates “will enhance the human, legal and institutional capacity to better allow Jamaica to honour existing commitments and attain the objectives of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Union”.

Public procurement is a hugely important task facing all governments, from the advanced economies of the EU to emerging and developing economies. As one of the leading global business schools that focus strongly on public sector governance, MSM has recently launched various initiatives to improve public procurement both in the EU and in emerging economies, and to facilitate learning between the EU and emerging economies. These include the establishment at MSM of the Corvers Chair in Innovation Procurement and the development of a cutting-edge executive program on e-Government.
