Managing innovation, technology and corporate change: MSM and RWTH Aachen’s new doctoral degree

Maastricht School of Management and RWTH Aachen University has just started a new joint program that leads to the degree Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in Managing Innovation, Technology and Corporate Change.

On 19 September 2016 MSM Dean Wim Naudé, one of the creators of this top-level research degree, welcomed the first three doctoral scholars into this program.

The first three pioneering DBA students are:  Ms. Alexandra Bauer (provisional topic: Improving Supply Chain Collaboration through Information Exchange and Knowledge Sharing); Mr. Stefan Bauer (provisional topic: Achieving Superior Performance through Strategic Collaboration Models); Mr. Mike Wetterling (provisional topic: The Impact of Bottom Level Training as an Integral Part of the Organisational Socialization of Newly Hired Top Managers).

The DBA is a minimum four-year program. The first year consist of course-work in research methods and skills, and technology and innovation management. MSM and RWTH Aachen University Faculty offer the course work. Lectures take place in Aachen and Maastricht.  From their second year onwards students work on their own individual theses under a supervisory team of RWTH Aachen University and MSM Faculty.

MSM has one of the most prominent DBA degrees in the world. According to the website DBAWorld it is ranked #2 in the world. It carries a prestigious AMBA, IACBE and ACSBP accreditation. In 2014 MSM was jointly awarded an Erasmus+ grant from the EU to research the quality of supervision in professional doctorates (of which the DBA is one) in the EU. Professional doctorates are widely increasing in popularity and relevance, as the educational requirements of the workforce in a knowledge economy characterised by rapid ICT innovation continues to rise.
