MSM advanced signatory to the Principles for Responsible Management Education

The Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative is the largest organized relationship between the United Nations, business schools, management-related academic institutions and universities. As an Advanced Signatory of PRME, Maastricht School of Management integrates universal values into its program curricula and research, with the aim to contribute to a more stable and inclusive global market and to help build prosperous and thriving societies.

MSM subscribes to high ethical standards in business and strongly promotes corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable development. CSR and business ethics are an integral part of our School’s program offer – in both research and education.

As an Advanced Signatory of PRME, MSM will make use of the Six Principles, a United Nations-supported framework for Higher Education Institutions and Business Schools that will help us to embed corporate sustainability even more into our educational programs, research and campus practices.

MSM’s commitment to these six principles are concretely implemented in its threefold approach focusing on:

1. Entrepreneurship and innovation. Here in particular we are committed towards entrepreneurship that creates and uses new business models for sustainable development, as for instance promoting the circular economy, make sharing more widespread, and lessen social inequalities and poverty.
2. Trade and finance in global management. Here in particular we are committed towards a global trade system that is fair, that facilitates the participation of small businesses and farmers from emerging economies in global value chains, and that ensures corporate social responsibility and cultural awareness in trading across borders.
3. Risk and sustainable development. We are also committed towards reducing the risks to sustainable business and the risks of businesses towards development. These risks are reflected in conflict, migration and the impacts of climate change on development outcomes such as security, nutrition, water availability and management of coastal cities and industrial facilities.

In each of these three focus areas MSM will do research, align its education programs, and engage in policy advocacy.
