Join the opening of the Photo exposition “Selling Strength” on 6 April 2017

From 6 April until 4 May you can visit the photo exposition Selling Strength organized by the Dean’s Office at MSM and Professor Josette Dijkhuizen, Honorary Professor in Entrepreneurship Development at MSM. The exposition, consisting of around 30 photos, and exhibited at MSM is a result of the travels from Professor Josette Dijkhuizen and Jeroen Berkhout, Communications consultant and photographer, to refugee settlements in Lebanon and Jordan. As a result of these travels they have put together a photographic documentary that illustrates the powerful impact of women entrepreneurs in these camps on their surroundings.

On Thursday 6 April the photo exposition will be officially opened by Theo Bovens, Governor of the Province of Limburg. If you would like to attend the opening event please click here and fill out the register form which you can find on the page below.

About this Exposition
More than 3,000 little stores in Za’atari Refugee Camp are a visible demonstration of the entrepreneurial spirit of Syrian refugees in Jordan. Behind these stores there are Syrian women starting small businesses, selling self-made clothes, jewelry or other handmade products, as a necessary way to support their children and families.

As any photographic documentary this photo essay aims to offer an insight and educate. In this case it also aims to raise awareness for the beneficial effects of stimulating women entrepreneurship on economic and social problems in the world. The benefits are not only obviously economical, but women spend 60 to 90 percent more into education, healthcare and food for their families. Children of these entrepreneurial mothers are fed and are for example giving more opportunities to education. And, evenly important, they grow up with a strong role model which will also benefit future generations.
