A guaranteed success for development projects with MSM’s executive Project Design Tools and Project Monitoring Tools program
From 13 May – 24 May 2019, 15 participants from seven different nationalities took part in the executive Project Identification, Development and Management program. This two-week program consisted of two courses: the 5-day executive Project Design Tools program and the executive Project Monitoring Tools program. The main focus of these two courses is to learn how to identify and manage stakeholders throughout the project cycle and how to identify, design, manage, monitor and evaluate development projects.
The first week kicked off with an introduction by Mirjana Stanisic, lecturer in Project Management at MSM, about the different project identification and formulation tools and techniques, an integral part of each development intervention. During the program each participant had to develop an individual project feasibility study. Patrick Martens, Senior Project Consultant and Lecturer at MSM, introduced all elements of project planning and budgeting which the participants could successfully integrate in their project assignment. The first week ended with two interesting discussions on the challenges in project design and implementation led by Meinhard Gans, MSM’s Chief Executive Officer (ad interim), followed by a discussion with Jeroen Maas, liaison officer at Rijkswaterstaat about the communication challenges they faced while building the A2 Tunnels in Maastricht.
During the second week Joris Stadhouders, Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems, discussed the challenges related to the design and implementation of IT projects. Rui Miguel Santos, Expert and trainer in Results-Based Management Evaluation of Development Programs & Projects, introduced and explored the design and management of monitoring systems, data collection methods, data analysis and interpretation, reporting techniques and designing evaluation questions. All these elements were successfully integrated in the individual project assignments which were presented by all participants at the end of the Project Monitoring Tools Program.
