Global Value Chains as the powerful driver of productivity, job creation and increased living standards
“This programme adopts a holistic approach to sustainable business development, offering a comprehensive understanding of environmental, social, and economic aspects from different perspectives.” – Mr. Hend Hany (Egypt), participant of the Short Executive Programme on Value Chain Analysis for Business Development and Local Value Addition.
The programme, running from 29 January – 02 February 2024, brought together professionals from eight different countries to the UM/MSM campus.
When we asked Mr. Hend Hany from Egypt why he applied for the programme, he answered: "This programme aligns perfectly with my role in the Egyptian Biodynamic Association. Joining this programme is an opportunity to enhance skills and knowledge in sustainable practices for business, social, and agricultural development. In addition, it is an aspiration to contribute positively to both environmental and economic aspects of the agricultural sector, especially in the field of enhancing CSR and VCA aspects in a collective sustainability perspective."
About the programme
Global Value Chains (GVC) are the network vehicles through which most of international trade takes place. GVC adds value, creates employment and offers effective opportunities for achieving higher levels of sustainability in the economy. Insertion into these GVCs is, especially for low economy countries, a condition for development.
For Mr. Hany, joining the programme was a valuable experience: “The programme adopts a holistic approach to sustainable business development, offering a comprehensive understanding of environmental, social, and economic aspects from various perspectives. Admiring the practical application and implementation of the acquired knowledge gives me the opportunity to enhance my research skills professionally. The global relevance, presented through diverse perspectives, is a wonderful chance for fostering a broader understanding of sustainable development in various contexts.”
Dr. Jeroen van Wijk, Associate Professor Global Value Chain and Partnerships at MSM, has designed this short executive programme to educate participants on how developing economies can benefit from global and regional value chains.
Mr. Hany was very positive about how Dr. van Wijk delivered the content: “Dr. van Wijk’s energy and effective delivery of the course content, with practical relevance for me, was outstanding. His inspiring guidance fosters a conducive learning environment within the team, especially with his continuous assignments tailored for our team accordingly.”
