Leading Change Management successfully
"This course opened my mind to the possibilities of a growth mindset as a leader." – were the words of Ms. Buchi Mbanu Nduka (Nigeria) after successfully completing the Short Executive Programme on Change Management, which took place from 18 – 22 March 2024. The programme brought together 15 participants with different cultural and professional backgrounds.
When asked why he decided to apply for the programme Mr. Chris Ibekwe (Germany) answered: “Within our organisation, we have just started the process of changing our global strategy as well as our mission and vision. I felt that this programme would be very valuable for me to understand different perspectives within the organisation and, more importantly, how to deal with this to gain commitment across the organisation.”
Leading and managing organizational change processes
Change is a constant factor in today’s global business world. Organisations have to adapt to their external environment, but also make changes within their own structure. Organisational change requires a fundamentally different approach to organisational processes from the traditional approach of management. Managers have to decide on the direction of change and guide their organisation through the transition process.
Dr Geert Heling, Professor of Practice in Organisational Behaviour, designed the Short Executive Programme on Change Management to help professionals to understand the rationale and objectives of organisational change and how to communicate these to the stakeholders involved. Furthermore, crucial for the success of the change process is to understand – and even more importantly - to handle the resistance factor at the start of the process. Ms. Nduka was very positive about the way Dr. Geert Heling delivered the content: “His simple yet intelligent lecturing skills is highly commendable. He broke down complex analysis and concepts and had us practice in groups, which truly fostered a learning experience that was holistic.”
Mr. Ibekwe also had nothing but positive words about Dr. Geert Heling: “Prof Geert was very well prepared and provided many different examples from his experiences. This enabled the whole class to remain fully engaged and included in the course. His lecture delivery process was well received, and he kept the whole class very much in tune and participative.”
Throughout the week, the participants worked on various group assignments, which Mr. Ibekwe found to be a great way to put theory into practice: “The group assignment were very interesting to participate in as it provided us with an opportunity to apply the learnings from the week into real life situations.”
Ms. Mbanu Nduka added: “It was fantastic! My team, though diverse, could agree that organisational change issues and plans cut across our global organisations. For any real growth to take place, a positive change roadmap with effective communication strategies involving employee opinions is important to building lasting organisational growth cultures.”
