The importance of successfully leading change

“Attending this course at MSM definitely polished and added value to my capacity as a managing director. The knowledge gained will help me to implement change within my organisation within clear frameworks with the use of effective tools we learned throughout the course.” - Mr. Aheng Ashti (Iraq)

From 21 – 25 November 2022, 14 professionals coming from different parts of the world came together at the Maastricht University – MSM Tapijn campus in Maastricht to join the 5-day short executive Change Management programme. The programme is designed to prepare the managers of today for the challenges of leading organisational change and renewal tomorrow.

According to Mr. Aheng Ashti (Iraq), being part of the Change Management programme was an insightful experience: “Attending this course at MSM definitely polished and added value to my capacity as a managing director. The knowledge gained will help me to implement change within my organisation within clear frameworks with the use of effective tools we learned throughout the course.”

For Mr. Kenneth Kimtai (Kenya) joining the Change Management programme was of great value for both his personal and professional life: “The content of the programme was rich with practical and experiential learnings which continues to add value in both my personal and professional life.

Mr. Ashiti added: “It was brought to my attention that change management has a direct correlation with understanding the psychology of the people you have in your organisation which made me enjoy the course even more due to my personal knowledge in the field of psychology.”

On the question if he would recommend this programme to others, Mr. Kimtai answered: “Absolutely,  as it provides good learning on how to implement change efficiently and effectively and gives simple yet powerful rules applicable.”

Mr. Ashit fully agrees: “I would recommend this course to those who are mainly concerned in being able to manage and guide change in an efficient manner in their organisation to be able to remain sustainable, competitive and innovative in their business.”

About the executive Change Management programme
Change is a constant factor in today’s business world. Organisations constantly have to adapt, to their external environment, but also make changes to their internal organisation. Project aiming to improve efficiency, IT implementation projects, cultural change processes and organisational restructuring projects can run concurrently in one organisation at a point in time. This can put extreme demands on employees, who can act either as a barrier or catalyst for successful change initiatives. Organisational change requires a fundamental different approach to organisational processes compared with the traditional approach of management. Managers have to decide on the direction of change and guide their organisation through the process of transition.

The executive change management programme is designed by Mr. Geert Heling, Professor of Organisational Behaviour at MSM, with the aim to equip (potential) managers with the managerial skills and capabilities to lead organisational change processes. “Professor Geert Heling is very knowledgeable in the area of Change Management. He provided a great balance between theory and practice and the concepts were clearly and professionally explained,” according to Mr. Kimtai.
