The sport industry needs good leaders

“Because good leaders can make a difference”, that is what Hans van Breukelen stated at the official launch of the Executive MBA in Sports Management. As ambassador of the program he emphasized the need for good leadership in the growing sport industry.

Over the past three decades the sport industry has risen to become one of the largest industries in terms of value added and employment generated. It is estimated to be worth at least US $600 billion on an annual basis, and is growing faster than the world economy on average. The sport industry has in addition to its huge economic impact also an important social and environmental impact. Sport contributes to individual well-being and facilitates social cohesion, teamwork and tolerance.

In this perspective Hans van Breukelen used the famous quote of Nelson Mandela: Sport has the power to change the world, as he truly believes in this himself. “And this starts with good leadership”, Van Breukelen added. “I strongly believe that this Executive MBA in Sports Management will contribute to this.”

The Executive MBA in Sports Management is an innovative and dynamic program designed for top-class sports players and professionals with the ambition to grow into senior management and leadership positions in sports management. The program will start in January 2016 and is offered by Maastricht School of Management and Sportbizz in cooperation with Topsport Limburg and Orange Sports Forum.
