MSM to start Financial Literacy training for a women investment club in Burundi

Nuffic has awarded MSM with a grant to execute a Tailor-Made-Training to strengthen the financial literacy of Burundi’s first women’s investment club, Women Invest (WIN). The organization is the first women’s club in Burundi committed to act towards changing the economic landscape for women.

WIN wants to strengthen women’s capacity to invest. It wants to design an immersive investment training program to develop top quality finance and investment decision making skills and learn how to express their view on investment matters. This is where this Tailor-Made-Training (TMT) comes in, by improving WIN’s knowledge and skills in finance and investment with a special focus on increasing and enhancing financial literacy skills to its women members. The subjects that will be covered by MSM’s finance and accounting experts are the finance system, investment and fundraising. MSM’s gender expert will provide a training on gender lens investing, which is the practice of investing for financial return while also considering the benefits to women, both through improving economic opportunities and social well-being for girls and women. This module will allow WIN to set up an impact investment strategy which deliberately integrates gender analysis into investment analysis and decision-making.

Through thoroughly being invested and taking part in this custom-made training, WIN participants will be able to develop affordable financial services tailored to the needs of women entrepreneurs as well as the recognition of their importance as a market segment in the financial sector in Burundi.

About Women Invest
WIN’s mission is to allow women privileged access to modern financial instruments for inclusive economic development. The organization aims to:

  • Put in place innovative financing mechanisms for women
  • Promote women's leadership and entrepreneurship
  • Position women as economic stakeholders rather than spectators
  • Accelerate the inclusive economic emergence of women in Burundi

WIN brings together women from diverse backgrounds who put together their savings and invest in the Burundian economy. It’s the first initiative in Burundi dedicated exclusively to female investment into a broad portfolio that over time will bridge the gender finance gap by supporting women-led businesses.

Collaborating with an MSM alumnus
On this project MSM is also working together with MSM MBA alumnus Alain Nkurikiye who was the first Burundian to graduate at MSM. He will be active as a local consultant who is specialized in investment and entrepreneurship both in Burundi and internationally.

The project will be coordinated by Ms. Antonella Anastasi, Junior Project Consultant at MSM and will run for one year.
