Welcome
Business is booming in emerging and developing countries (EMDEVs). With this the demand for quality management education and know-how has significantly risen. “Business schools can hear the call of Africa,” a recent article in the Financial Times announced, pointing out that the high growth of many African countries has increased the demand for good managers. As one of the most international business schools in the Netherlands, Maastricht School of Management has had its pulse on business and management education in the EMDEVs for more than 60 years. In a recent interview in the Talkin’Business newsletter of the Maastricht University School of Business and Economics, I was asked whether the economic rise of EMDEVs such as China, India, and others pose a threat to the West. My response was that it does not; that the interest and continued success of the West will be enhanced by the development of EMDEVs. We experience this on a daily basis at Maastricht. We have probably educated and learned from more managers from Africa, and many other continents, than any other business school in the Netherlands or EU region. For this, we are happy to have been honored by a nomination as finalist for the 2014 Nuffic Orange Carpet Award for advancing the internationalization of higher education in the Netherlands. You can read more about this in this newsletter. You can also read about new educational initiatives that we have launched, from the Middle East and North Africa to the Kingdom of Bhutan. And you can read about our initiative to link businesses in Europe with the fast-growing country of Azerbaijan. There is nothing that accelerates development and business success as fast as new ideas, knowledge and information. Don’t hesitate therefore to link up with MsM, and to benefit from our unique global positioning.
