Congratulations to our DBA graduates!

This month two DBA candidates successfully defended their Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) theses at MSM. Mr. Joseph Walusimbi from Uganda undertook a study on the “Applicability of the High Performance Partnership Framework on Performance Growth of Producer Firms in Commercial Forestry: A Study of Cluster Dynamics in Tanzania and Uganda”, and Ms. Asmaa Mohamed Salah Ibrahim's research focused on “Leadership Approaches in Multinational Companies: An Egyptian Case Study”. For Ms. Ibrahim, the DBA was the by default step after her MBA: “One of my professors recommended me the MSM DBA program and I found it very interesting and enriching. It offers very helpful courses during the research phase. It is run by highly qualified and professional professors who work with clear guidelines and deadlines. I would definitely recommend MSM DBA program”.

About Ms. Ibrahim's research:
Ms. Ibrahim's study looked more specifically at how human resources management professionals in multinational companies, operating in a host-country such as Egypt, identify and address the required leadership practices of managers, based on Egyptian employees’ cultural values in the subsidiaries. The study was conducted in two of the top multinational companies in leadership field. This study proposes simple procedures and steps that help in addressing the best perceived leaders’ practices based on national culture.

The study describes the cultural factors that human resources management professionals should consider, as they impact workplace. Furthermore, the study presents the required leadership practices of managers with guidelines for implementation and managerial implications.

The study highlights a potential shift in employees’ work related values, which might be attributed to employees’ exposure to foreign cultures or the social changes that Egypt has been experiencing since January 2011. Changes in employees’ work related values may increase the need for substantial modifications in leadership practices. This opens the room for conducting more studies on national cultural aspects that impact the workplace, and employees’ recommendations towards best leadership practices in privately held businesses and publicly held organizations in Egypt.

Mr. Walusimbi's about his research:
Mr. Walusimbi’s research aimed to find out whether and how commercial forestry growers’ associations in Tanzania and Uganda enhance performance improvement initiatives of their members (growers), leading to increased productivity and incomes of the growers’ ventures. “The premise was to determine effective ways of how associations can ultimately promote improvement in their members’ business performance especially in low developed economy settings.

Mr. Walusimbi looks back on a fruitful doctorate journey at MSM: “I was ignited by my passion to do in-depth research and to develop expertise on issues of competitiveness and sustainability of business organization. I know that I made the right choice by doing my DBA at MSM. Now I aim to apply the accumulated knowledge and experience to organizations and practitioners in both the business and development sectors. I fully recommend the MSM DBA program to those who share the same passion.

MSM warmly congratulates both doctors with their DBA diplomas!
