Bill and Melinda Gates Foundations funds Open Access for MSM Research

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is funding the open access for a MSM research publication. The publication, in the highly ranked journal Food Policy, is by Professor Wim Naudé of MSM and co-authored by Dr. Paula Nagler from Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Entitled ‘Non-farm entrepreneurship in rural sub-Saharan Africa: New empirical evidence’ the paper uses the Living Standards Measurement Study – Integrated Surveys on Agriculture (LSMS-ISA) to measure the patterns and determinants of entrepreneurship in Africa. Uniquely, the paper estimates the productivity of various types of business enterprises across various African countries, between rural and urban areas, and how this is affected by distance from markets, education of the manager, sector of business and other factors.
